Engine Oils of the API’s Latest Standards Have Arrived

17.07.2020

Dear Customers

We are glad to inform you about arrival of Japan engine oils FQ, which meet the stringent requirements of the latest standards of the American Petroleum Institute (API).

From May 1, 2020, the new API’s engine oil standards API SP, ILSAC GF-6A and ILSAC GF-6B specifying more strict requirements to the vehicle engine oils have come into effect.

Engine oils of the latest API SP category are superior to the previous API SN и API SN PLUS engine oil categories in many respects; for example, they prevent the Low Speed Pre-Ignition phenomenon, protect against timing chain wear and against the piston and turbocharger high-temperature deposits, ensure decreased amount of the sludge and varnish deposits.

The API SP-category’s engine oils are backward compatible and can replace previous API categories’ oils unless specified by an original engine manufacturer.

According to the new API standard, the ILSAC GF-6A and ILSAC GF-6B resource-conserving engine oils compose a separate group with special marking “Resource Conserving”. These engine oils have increased fuel economy compared to an oil “base sample” such as SAE 20W-30, provide greater turbocharger protection, and ensure decrease of the high-temperature deposits in the turbocharged engines; they also have improved compatibility with the exhaust gas aftertreatment systems and have compatibility with ethanol-containing fuels up to E85.

The distinction between ILSAC GF-6A and ILSAC GF-6B standard subcategories is that the ILSAC GF-6A is the backward-compatible standard for SAE 0W-20, SAE 5W-20, SAE 0W-30, SAE 5W-30, and SAE 10W-30 viscosity grades, whereas the ILSAC GF-6B is only used for SAE 0W-16.
